
Ormond was the daughter of Josephine Lab technician as well as John Ormond (a stockbroker) located in Epsom, Surrey. She is the second of five children to her parents. Her first performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. Then she attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After one year of arts school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art where she graduated in 1988. Ormond made her debut appearance on British television's 1989 drama Traffik. It focused on illegal heroin trade between the far East as well as the streets of Europe. Ormond played the heroin addicted daughter of the character and was also a Home Office minister working to combat the importation of heroin. This role was highly praised from the beginning.
